Overview

One engineering team for the website, the LMS and the code between them

Most training businesses run two systems that were never designed together: a WordPress site that sells courses and a learning platform that delivers them. The gap is filled with plugins, webhooks, spreadsheets and staff time, and when a purchase does not become an enrollment, each vendor points at the other.

ZionStar is an EdTech engineering company working on Canvas, Moodle, LTI tools and student portals. We treat the WordPress-to-LMS connection as software with its own architecture: a defined source of truth, idempotent enrollment calls, retry queues, reconciliation jobs and logs you can read when something fails.

Is Your Website Creating More Work for Your Training Team?

The failure patterns we are most often asked to diagnose. Each has a technical cause that can be found.

  • 01

Learners cannot access courses they paid for

  • The order completes but no enrollment reaches the LMS, because a webhook failed silently, the user did not match or the triggering status never fired.
  • Payment-triggered enrollment
  • 02

Enrollment data does not match between systems

  • WordPress, the LMS and the CRM each give a different answer about who is active. Without a reconciliation job, the drift keeps growing.
  • Sync and reconciliation design
  • 03

Course updates mean editing several systems by hand

  • A date or price change has to be made on the product page, in the LMS catalog and in email templates. Catalog sync removes the duplicate entry.
  • Catalog and course sync
  • 04

Plugin and integration updates keep breaking things

  • A routine update changes a hook or field name and enrollments stop. Staging, compatibility testing and monitoring catch it before learners do.
  • Ask about a stability review
  • 05

Site performance is costing course sales

  • Page builders, slow catalog queries and stacked plugins drag down checkout. We profile the slow requests instead of guessing at cache settings.
  • Request a performance review
  • 06

No single team owns the whole workflow

  • The agency, the LMS administrator and the payment provider each own a part, so nobody owns the path from checkout to first login.

What we build

What We Build and Support

Six modules. Most engagements combine two or three, depending on where your workflow breaks.

  • Module A

WordPress Website Development & Maintenance

  • Themes, plugins, PHP/CSS/JavaScript troubleshooting, speed, migrations, accessibility and technical SEO for course websites.
  • Course and checkout pages that load quickly on mobile
  • Plugin conflicts resolved, not worked around
  • A site your team can edit without breaking layouts
  • Discuss this — WordPress Website Development & Maintenance
  • Module B

LMS Implementation & Administration

  • Setup, course migration, SCORM compatibility testing, assessments, certificates, completion rules, learning paths, roles and reporting.
  • Courses migrated with completion records intact
  • SCORM packages tested before learners open them
  • Roles and reports that match how your team works
  • Learn more — LMS Implementation & Administration
  • Module C

WordPress-to-LMS Integration

  • User provisioning, catalog sync, payment-triggered enrollment, SSO, status sync, renewals, CRM integration and import/export tooling.
  • Every valid purchase produces exactly one enrollment
  • One login across website and learning platform
  • Status that agrees across WordPress, LMS and CRM
  • Learn more — WordPress-to-LMS Integration
  • Module D

Online Course Commerce

  • WooCommerce course products, bundles, subscriptions, coupons, gateways, refunds and transactional email, with automatic enrollment where the LMS supports it.
  • Refunds and cancellations remove access consistently
  • Bundles and subscriptions map cleanly to courses
  • Orders that reconcile against enrollments
  • Learn more — Online Course Commerce
  • Module E

Managed Technical Support

  • Tested updates, LMS administration, monitoring, integration health checks, backups, security fixes and escalation within agreed coverage hours.
  • Updates tested on staging before production
  • Integration failures found in logs, not complaints
  • A named team that knows your stack
  • Discuss this — Managed Technical Support
  • Module F

AI & Automation

  • Custom builds: a learner support assistant, enrollment exception detection, inactivity and renewal reminders, ticket categorization and CRM lead-to-enrollment.
  • Enrollment exceptions flagged before learners report them
  • Fewer repetitive access questions reaching staff
  • Reminders driven by real LMS activity
  • Discuss this — AI & Automation

Platforms

Platforms We Work With

We have delivered production work on Canvas and Moodle. For other platforms we validate your plan's API access and sandbox behavior before committing to scope. LearnDash and Tutor LMS run inside WordPress, so their work is mostly access rules, not API calls.

How it works

How an Engagement Runs

Scope is agreed only after we have read what you already have.

  • 1

Review existing website and LMS

  • We inspect plugins, LMS configuration, credentials, logs and the current checkout-to-access path.
  • Deliverables
  • Inventory of plugins and custom code
  • Map of where user, course and order data lives
  • 2

Identify issues and agree on scope

  • We rank problems by learner impact and propose a fix for each. You choose what is in scope.
  • Deliverables
  • Root-cause findings
  • Proposed architecture where needed
  • Fixed scope and estimate
  • 3

Implement and test improvements

  • We build on staging against an LMS sandbox where one exists and test purchase, refund and login scenarios.
  • Deliverables
  • Code in your repository
  • Scenario test results
  • Rollback notes
  • 4

Maintain, monitor and optimize

  • We watch integration logs and failure queues and apply updates on staging first.
  • Deliverables
  • Health checks and alerting
  • Periodic reconciliation reports

Learner journey

The Learner Journey, Stage by Stage

Each stage crosses a system boundary. Here is what fails there and the engineering fix.

  • Course discovery
  • Registration
  • Checkout
  • LMS enrollment
  • Training access
  • Completion and certification

1Course discovery

  • What can fail
  • The website lists a date or price the LMS no longer offers, because both were edited separately.
  • How we engineer it
  • One system owns the catalog; the other receives synced records through a product-to-course ID map.

2Registration

  • What can fail
  • A learner registers with a new email while an older LMS account exists, creating a duplicate.
  • How we engineer it
  • Match on a stable external ID first and email second, and look up LMS users before creating them.

3Checkout

  • What can fail
  • Payment succeeds but the gateway callback is late, so the enrollment trigger never fires.
  • How we engineer it
  • Trigger on the status that truly means paid for your gateway, and queue the job outside the request.

4LMS enrollment

  • What can fail
  • The LMS API times out, the job retries and the learner is enrolled twice or not at all.
  • How we engineer it
  • Use an idempotency key per order line, check before writing and send failures to a retry queue with alerts.

5Training access

  • What can fail
  • The learner is enrolled but SSO attributes do not map or the session breaks between domains.
  • How we engineer it
  • Use SAML, OIDC or LTI where supported, map identity attributes explicitly and test login on each domain.

6Completion and certification

  • What can fail
  • Completion is recorded in the LMS but certificates, CRM fields and renewal dates never update.
  • How we engineer it
  • Pull completion on a schedule or from platform events and update downstream records in one job.

FAQ

Common Questions

Something we haven't covered? The assistant answers from this page and can book an engineer.

Ask the assistant

Can you integrate our existing WordPress site with an LMS?

Yes. We usually keep your site and theme, review the plugins already handling users and orders, and build or repair the LMS connection. A rebuild is proposed only if the current setup cannot support reliable enrollment.

Can learners buy courses through WooCommerce?

Yes. WooCommerce takes payment and a queued job enrolls the learner once the order is paid. Full automation depends on the LMS API available on your plan.

Do you support TalentLMS?

We offer TalentLMS integration assessments. We have not yet shipped production TalentLMS work, so we confirm your plan's API access and test on your account before agreeing scope.

Can you migrate our existing LMS?

Yes, within what the source platform can export. We map courses, users, enrollments and completions, test SCORM on the target and plan a cutover that keeps learner history.

Do you work with Canvas and Moodle?

Yes. These are the platforms where we have direct production experience, including their APIs, LTI 1.3, SSO and custom plugins.

Can you fix learner login and enrollment issues?

Yes. We trace failed cases through orders, API logs and LMS user records, fix the cause and backfill affected learners.

Do you provide ongoing WordPress maintenance?

Yes: staged updates, integration monitoring, backups and security fixes within agreed coverage hours. We do not offer round-the-clock coverage.

How long does an implementation take?

It depends on the platforms, product count and current state. We give a timeline after the technical assessment.

Get started

Request a Technical Assessment

Tell us which systems you run and where the workflow breaks. An engineer reads every request.

  • Tell the assistant what's breakingYour LMS, the plugins involved and what learners or admins see. Ask it anything about the integration first if you like.
  • Confirm your work emailA one-time code proves the address. Never share passwords, API keys or LMS admin logins in chat.
  • Pick a timeChoose an open slot for your technical assessment. An engineer reviews your setup before the call.

Hi — I can help with WordPress LMS Development. What's happening between your WordPress site and your LMS?

Orders complete in WooCommerce, but some learners never get enrolled.

That's usually the order-to-enrollment hand-off — a missed webhook or a duplicate account. Let's book a technical assessment; I'll need your name and work email.
